About the Laguna Madre Fly Fishers of Corpus Christi

The LMFFCC idea came about in the last quarter of 2008. Several of us were talking about fly fishing at JerryB’s shop and the idea came up that we should start a club. The idea was to have a club that would welcome and encourage beginners being that most of us were in fact just that.

Within a few months Bob Shirley came into JerryB’s shop. Bob was then the Federation of Fly Fishers membership director. After speaking with Bob a meeting was called at JerryB’s to discuss the matter. That night the LMFFCC was formed. In order to start a club we needed 10 members to be chartered under the FFF. The membership requirement was met with, if I remember, 11 new members signing up that evening. The charter and required paperwork, 501 (c) (3), was completed by Jim Schramm and LMFFCC became official. Required State and Federal paperwork was filed and received shortly thereafter.

A Board of Directors was elected in January 2009 and the club was on its way. We have had growing pains as any new organization, but we have made the transition from an idea to an actual club. Our primary goal is to encourage new fly fishers to become proficient in the sport and take an active part in the conservation efforts directly affecting our sport. We want to emphasize that this is a membership run club and comments and ideas are always welcome. Special thanks are extended to Sydney Smith who has worked tirelessly on our website in order to disseminate information to our members and potential members. We will continue to make the website better with education links and pertinent information posted as it becomes available.
